Finland could be the first country to officially recognize the Catalonia as a republic. This will place the Scandinavian country as a direct opposition to the European Union (EU). The Finnish MP Mikko Karna said he intended to submit a motion to the Finnish parliament to recognize the new state of Catalonia.Karna, who is part of the ruling party, headed by Prime Minister Juha Sipila, also sent her congratulations to his Catalonia after the regional parliament announced to escape the Spanish territory.If Finland formally recognizes the state of Catalonia then this would be another blow to the EU that has firmly supported Spain to unite under Madrid's control.European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned of a crackdown on the block due to a seismic event in Catalunya that led to the outbreak of the block. "I do not want a situation where, tomorrow, the EU is made up of 95 different states, we need to avoid divisions, because we already have enough divisions and we do not need them anymore," he said.Donald Tusk, President of the Council of Europe, said earlier that the EU would only communicate with Spain even though the Catalan parliament voted to secede from Spain."We also repeat the legal position held by this Commission and also by its predecessors.If the referendum is set in accordance with the Spanish Constitution, this means that the abandoned territories will be outside the EU," he said.He asked all parties involved to promote dialogue.
