North Korea Develops New ICBM Version That Can Reach US
WASHINGTON - North Korea is reportedly developing an advanced version of intercontinental intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) that could potentially reach mainland United States (US). So the statement of a US official.A US official said that an upgraded version of Pyongyang's existing KN-20 was part of an effort that was accelerated by Kim Jong-un's dictatorial regime to improve its nuclear and missile capabilities. The disclosure came less than six months after North Korea tested its first ICBM and triggered its sixth nuclear test. The official said that new improvements are underway for nuclear fuel, missile launchers, guidance systems and missile targeting. This forces the US to recalculate the timing of North Korea's missile attack threats. The official also warned that Pyongyang may have the capacity to install a mini nuclear warhead at ICBM by early 2018.The accelerated weapons program is touted as the reason why senior US officials are warning of rising risks from Pyongyang, even amid efforts to find a diplomatic solution.US President Donald Trump this weekend will embark on a long journey to Asia, where finding a solution to the North Korean problem will be on the agenda of meeting with a number of leaders. The Trump Administration is racing to complete the Nuclear Posture Review and Ballistic Missile Defense Review. This review will develop a multibillion-dollar weapon upgrade plan to counter future threats. On Wednesday, the US Congressional Research Service also set out seven possible US military options. Options ranging from maintaining the status quo, to regime change and destruction of nuclear facilities and ICBM North Korea, to draw US troops out of the Korean peninsula. The report does not provide specific recommendations, adding that the "national option" is intended to help Congress appreciate the different possibilities for denuclearization of the peninsula.
